Yesterday was a momentous occasion for one of our club runners Francis Smith as he ran in his last ever Indoor Scottish Championships wearing his Pitreavie club vest. In the preliminaries Francis ran a season's best of 8.57 to win the 60m hurdles heat. In the final after a shaky start, Francis threw himself at the line to try and win the gold but after checking the photo for 15mins the officials decided Francis had to settle for silver with the same time as the winner (8.49s).
Some of the younger athletes that Francis takes for hurdles coaching were there to watch and cheer him on, and I am sure his determination as he threw himself over the line will inspire them in future competitions of their own.
