National Short Course Cross Country Champs

Published on Tuesday, 11 November 2014 08:27

Well done to all athletes who took part in the National Short Course Cross Country champs at a very muddy Bellahouston Park on Sunday 9th November.
All race fields were packed full of Scottish talent, and the races were fast and furious over the muddy flat and fast course.

First up were the U15 girls, running a 2k course - our girls ran well with very good positions Iona Crawford (11th), Zoe Nicholson (22nd), Ciara Bowman (25th) making us 6th team on the day, a good result in an extremely competitive age group, leaving some work to do if they want to be in the team medals in the East Districts in December.

U15 boys were next with good runs all round, James Adam held off a fast approaching Ben Grant to keep hold of 11th place, with Ben taking 12th, supported by William Kane (44th), Dylan Thomson (51) and Liam Gillan (64). Alex Johnston started but was unable to complete the course due to sore hamstrings – hope that they are better soon Alex!. The U15 boys finished with the best team result of the day placing a very impressive 4th, this puts them in a great position for the East Districts in December.

Leah Davie was our sole representative in the U17W, running a 3k course, she placed 9th in a very competitive race.

In the U17M race Tyler White was first home in 15th place, backed up by Corey Smith in 44th closely followed by Andrew McNair in 47th place, this gave the men a team position of 10th team.

We had two ladies running in the Senior Womens race, Rebecca Burns ducked out of a family engagement to run, placing well in 14th place, she felt that she could have done better as she is coming back from illness, but it was great to see a Pitreavie vest so well placed in such a competitive field. Amy McAlpine joined her and placed 103rd in a large and competitive field, great to see Amy turn out for the club when she is not working at the weekend!

Thanks to all parents and dogs who came along to support our runners, you are always a welcome sight - it’s a mucky job supporting cross country but someone has to do it!

Reminder – I am taking names for the East District XCC event on 6th December in Dundee, I have heard from a number of you, if you haven’t let me know please drop me a line via Facebook page, email
