Events Sub Group Summary

The events team kicked off this week by organising an area at the Fresh Air Festival, an event held in the public park in Dunfermline. This is event has been substancially growing each year and it was a great opportunity to get involved.

We didn't have a lot of time to get organised, so we had two main areas that we targetted:

"Come and Try"

We set up hurdles, shot putt and standing long jump and invited all ages to come and try the events. When the kids were having a go we were able to have a chat with parents and tell them a bit about the club. The kids had a ball and we recorded performances allowing them to come back later and get a medal if they were one of the best for their age. The kdis who took part loved it, we had queues for a lot of the day and I think the Run, Jump & Throw Club may be inundated with enquiries this week as most of the kids were keen but still a bit young to join the club.

Road Runners

The other area we focussed on was our Road Running section, and the Events team liaised with the Road Running team to work together. The Road Running section are lloking increase their membership and have recently been looking at training plans and how they can organise training to be more inclusive for all abilities. They are hoping to encourage more members, and would like to see if any parents are interested as you can train at the same time your kids are training. At the event the group handed out flyers and chatted to people who were interested. Theer wil be a "come & try" session planned on a club night and anyone interested should contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

All in all the day was a great success, and this was mainly due to number of athletes (and parents) who came along and helped. The athletes were all ages from a variety of groups and were enthusiastic, helpful and encouraging and gave a fantastic representation of our club. Well done to all.

We will be attending this event again next year (fingers crossed the weather is better) and we are hoping to organise a fun run around the park in addition to the events we organised this year.

Our next focus is the Young Athletes Trophy Meeting at the start of September (which we will need a lot of help for) and the Cross Country Festival which we will be organising in partnership with the Dunfermline & West Fife Sports council.
