Double for Harry at Pitreavie trophy meeting

Published on Sunday, 13 September 2015 21:08
PITREAVIE athlete Harry Johnston was a double winner at the Young Athletes Trophy Meeting.
The annual competition, held at Pitreavie Stadium, regularly attracts many of the top young athletes in the country.
And Harry - competing at under-15 level - was up there with the best of them on Sunday.
He enjoyed success in the javelin with a throw of 32.44m and was victorious in the long jump with a leap of 5.33m. He also picked up bronze in the 200m in a time of 25.74s.
The host club had another dozen winners, including Kirsten Cronie, who won the under-20 pole vault open with a clearance of 2.90m.
Bethany McAndrew won the under-17 80m hurdles in 12.76s, and also picked up silver with 4.74m in the long jump, while Erin Graham won the high jump in the same age group with a clearance of 1.55m.
There was more high jump success for the girls at under-13 level, as Jennifer Brydon's clearance of 1.40m was enough to secure the win. She also collected silver in the 70m hurdles in 12.58s.
For the boys, there were victories for James Adam, Adam Johnston and Dylan Thomson at under-17 level.
James won the 800m in 2:05.46, Adam took first place in the long jump with 6.04m and pole vaulter Dylan's clearance of 3.20m was the best of the day.
In the under-15s, there was another high jump success for Pitreavie, with Ryan Woods winning with a clearance of 1.55m, and Alex Johnston won the 800m in 2:12.65.
Due to the high number of entries in the under-13 800m, the organisers took the decision to hold two finals - and Pitreavie athletes won them both.
The first final was won by Lewis Blair in 2:22.63, with clubmate Conor Gourley finishing second in 2:26.57; and in the second final, Lewis Dow was victorious in 2:20.10, with Campbell Dowie third in 2:30.93.
In the same age group, there was success in the shot putt for Gregor McPherson with a throw of 5.97m.
