Website settles in...

Published on Thursday, 15 August 2013 22:28

The website has been up and running now for nearly two weeks and I thought I'd share how it's going. As with all new websites there are always a few teething problems to start with and we have had a few bugs with registering and logging in. Owain has done a great job keeping on top of this, especially when I abandoned him to go on holiday for a week! It didn't help when the server that the website is hosted on was hacked and our website was down for a bit.

Hopefully things are calming down now and there will be less maintenance and issues for us to deal with. To summarise:

On the whole the feedback we have had so far has been very positive and we have had around 60 people register. This is a mixture of athletes and parents and we encourage all members to register. You must be registered to see the contents of the forum or submit news. When registering please use a recognisable name, for example NicolaM or Nicola Moriarty. If you have not done this then please change your details otherwise Admin will do this for you.

We want to encourage more members to post News, if it is of interest to you then it is likely to be of interest to others. Don't worry about how it's written, just submit the facts and the news team will provide a summary and publish it. We aim to publish news within 24 hours of submission and if relevant it will also be forwarded onto the Dunfermline Press.

The Contact form has been well used, in fact much more than we anticipated! It provides an easy method for members and non-members to ask questions and get a response from the club.

The Forum is up and running and this should provide both a means of communication for groups and team managers, plus a place for discussion.  Please note, if you have a specific question that you would like answered then it is probably best to use the contact form as it will be directed at the relevant person.

The Calendar will provide some useful dates however is not a replacement for the calendar on the Scottish Athletics website. If you have events that you wish added to the calendar then contact us.

The Gallery is one of my favourite sections as it links to the flickr site containing lots of fantastic photos. We are very lucky to have Steve Adam in the club who produces professional quality photos. If there are any other budding photographers in the club who would like to upload photos then contact us and we can provide details for uploading to flickr.

If you have any other suggestions for sections to be added to the website then again, please contact us. Hopefully it will grow over time and provide everything you need to know about the club in one place.

Finally, if anyone has any experience in web design/maintenance and is willing to provide a little assistance then please let us know. We would really appreciate help in maintaining the website for the members.

Thanks

Nicola
