Young Pitreavie athletes win indoor league

PITREAVIE AAC have won this year's Fife Indoor Athletics League following victory in the third - and final - meeting of the season.
The league is a competition for the under-13 and under-11 age groups, with each athlete competing in three disciplines, and takes place in Pitreavie Athletics Centre.
As well as host club Pitreavie, Dunfermline Track & Field, Fife AC and Fife Sports & Leisure Trust's Run Jump Throw team (RJT) took part.The under-13 boys' events were dominated by Pitreavie trio Ross Birrell, Samuel Turnbull and Jacob Carr.
 
Ross won the 60m in 8.74s, and was third in both the high jump with a clearance of 1.33m and the shot putt with a throw of 5.90m.
Samuel won the high jump and set a new club record of 1.49m, finished second in the shot putt with 6.33m and was third in the 60m in 9.28s.
And Jacob won the shot putt with 7.71m, and was second in both the 60m in 8.90s and the high jump with 1.36m.
Pitreavie's Naomi McHardy was the top under-13 girl. She won the shot putt with 6.42m, was second in the 60m in 8.89s and third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.25m - and all three were personal bests.
Clubmate Louise Conway won the 60m in 8.82s and was second in the high jump with 1.27m.
Dunfermline's Megan Gilhooly won the high jump with a clearance of 1.33m, and team mate Erin Thomson was third in the 60m in 8.90s.
Carys Burke, of RJT, was second in the shot putt with 6.41m, with Rachel McNab third with a throw of 6.14m.
In the under-11 boys' events, it was Harris Reid, of RJT, who stood out. He won both the long jump with 3.98m and the turbo javelin with a throw of 14.00m, and was third in the 60m in 9.42s.
Pitreavie's Caleb McLeod also featured in the top three in all three events, finishing second in both the 60m in 9.29s and the long jump with 3.80m, and taking third place in the turbo javelin with 12.75m.
The other top three places went to Dunfermline athletes - Cameron King won the 60m in 9.22s, Owain Clark was third in the long jump with 3.56m and Calum Beggs was second in the turbo javelin with a throw of 12.75m.
In the under-11 girls, Dunfermline's Mya McMahon, who has been a star performer at all three league meetings, added another two victories, winning the 60m in 9.27s and the long jump with 3.89m.
Kate Richardson (RJT) was second in the 60m in 9.33s, with Sophie Jeynes (Pitreavie) third in 9.81s; and Darcie Black (RJT) was runner-up in the long jump with 3.33m with Summer Laird (Pitreavie) third with 3.17m.
The turbo javelin was won by Aine Easdon (Dunfermline) with 9.95m, second was Jessica Stewart (Dunfermline) with 9.20m and third was Darcie Black (RJT) with 8.70m.
Laura Page, Pitreavie AAC's club together officer, praised all the athletes for their camaraderie and said they should all be proud of both their individual and team performances.
She added: "Pitreavie AAC would like to thank all coaching staff who work tremendously throughout the year, as well as the officials, volunteers, parents, guardians and athletes for making this event so successful. 
"Events and opportunities of this calibre would not be possible without the tremendous input of our volunteers."
Overall, Pitreavie finished top of the league, Dunfermline T&F were runners-up, third place went to the Run Jump Throw team and Fife AC were fourth.
