Scottish Schools Championships Report

Published on Tuesday, 13 February 2018 20:17

The Scottish Schools Indoor Athletics Championships took place last week at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, bringing together athletes from across the country to compete in senior (over16) and junior (under 16) age groups. Pitreavie AAC was well represented by athletes from Dollar Academy, Dunfermline HS, Inverkeithing HS, Kinross HS, St Columbas HS, South Queensferry HS, Stewarts Melville, Queen Anne HS and Woodmill HS. There were some excellent performances and many Personal Bests - full results available here.

Hghlights were Dylan Thomson (Inverkeithing HS) winning gold in the O16 Boys Pole Vault with a clearance at 4.71m, a new Championship Best performance for the event and also a Pitreavie Senior Mens club record indoors. Dylan bettered his PB by 10cm, continuing his fine indoor season form. Congratulations to Dylan and to coach Eamon Fitzgerald on a tremendous performance.

Alex Johnston (Inverkeithing HS) followed up an excellent bronze medal in the O16 Boys 1500m on Wednesday with gold in the O16 Boys 800m on Thursday, a fine achievment when competing in both distance events means four races in only 24 hours. In a tactical 800m final, Alex kicked away strongly from the field  to win in 1:57.81. Well done to Alex and to coach Steve Doig. Alex received his medal from Scottish Commonwealth Games 800m athlete Guy Learmonth.

There were medal-winning performances by the following Pitreavie athletes:

Dylan Thomson, Gold in O16B Pole Vault, 4.71m

Alex Johnston, Gold in O16B 800m, 1m 57.81s; Bronze in O16B 1500m, 4m 03.32s

Sarah Coutts, Silver in U16G 1500m, 4m 38.23s

Billy Doyle, Bronze in O16B 400m, 50.81s

Cameron Keelan, Bronze in O16B 60m Hurdles, 8.86s

Well done to all the athletes who competed at the Championships, achieved personal bests and reached event finals in what is always a very competitive meeting.
