2018 Forth Road Bridge 10K

Published on Friday, 23 February 2018 17:41

We regret to inform you that Pitreavie AAC will be unable to run the Forth Road Bridge 10k this year due planned works on the walkways of the Forth Road Bridge.

In order to hold the event we need permission from the FRB Authority/Amey. Over the years they have been very supportive of this event, ensuring that we have been able to run the event despite the various work that has been going on in relation to the new Queensferry Crossing. However now that the new bridge is open they are undertaking long overdue maintenance work on the old bridge, which means access to the Forth Road Bridge will be limited from July.

We have been liaising with the FRB Authority over the last couple of weeks, however we have been unable to find a suitable solution that would allow us to put on the same quality of event and ensure the safety of all participants and bridge users. We also looked at bringing the event date forward, however the FRB Authority has been unable to accommodate this due to other scheduled events and bridge works.

We are very disappointed that we will be unable to hold the event this year, as we know it is a highlight for many on the race calendar. The event is also a key fundraiser for Pitreavie AAC, so there will be a financial impact on the club as a result. With this in mind I’d encourage everyone, where possible to support the other track and field and endurance events that Pitreavie AAC will put in this year.

We will continue to liaise with the FRB Authority and hope that the event will be back on the race calendar in 2019.

Regards,

Campbell Blair
FRB 10k Race Director
