East District Cross Country League Livingston - 18 January 2020

Published on Tuesday, 28 January 2020 16:42

The East District cross country league took place on a cold and sunny day in Livingston. A marked contrast to the stormy weather at Stirling the previous week.  Amongst the juniors, an outstanding run from 9 year old Isla Gourley saw Pitreavie’s U11 athlete finish the last match in Livingston in 8th place out of 60 finishing athletes at the East District XC league. Her time of 6:51m was only 17 secs behind the winner of the 1.5k course.  Teammates Layla Morrison, Jenna Young, Rachel Jennings and Esme Deacon helped the team finish the league in 7th place with a total of 212 points despite missing a lot of the older Pitreavie athletes in this age group.

The U11 Boys had an incredible cross country season finishing in 3rd place overall. Frazer Lees was first across the line for the team again in 6:42m, with Jack Rodger and Josh Rippin placing 2nd and 3rd for the team.  Ross Allan was unable to run in the final match, but the boys team consistently had a good turnout with fellow teammates Murray Roy, Daniel Forbes, Callum Woods and Sam Parker.

Unfortunately, the U13 girls who were the winners of the league last year, were missing most of their endurance runners this season.  However, it didn’t deter Ariane Baillie who finished individually in 6th place out of a possible 61 over 3.2k.

The U15/17 race saw Anya Morrison lead the way for Pitreavie, placing 10th overall and 7th in her age group.  She finished the 4.1k course in a remarkable 16:17m, with Erin MacFarlane less than a minute behind her.  Maya Millar completing the team helped them finish in 7th place.  The U15 Boys team were incomplete for this final match due to injuries, but Oliver Rodger and Cameron Johnston finishes the course in 15:51m and 17:44m respectively.

In the women’s team Kirsten Suttie performed solidly on the 6.4k course leading the team in 32nd place out of 141 finishers, with a time of 28.00m. The women’s team was completed by Sarah Ross, Morna Fleming, Leona Doherty, and Penny Hicks.  Johnny Campbell lead the men’s team over the 9.6k course in 37.53m, a third of the way up the 268 strong field, with Jeff Farquhar coming in at 39.40m, and Graeme Gordon in 40.34m.  The men’s team also included first timer David Henderson, with a creditable 41.32m, followed by Tom Sludden, Gordon MacFarlane and Craig Shield.
