National Cross Country Relay Championship Report

Published on Sunday, 27 October 2013 23:31
What a fantastic day we had on Saturday 26th October at the National Cross Country Relay Championships in Cumbernauld. The weather was kind but the rain during the week made the course heavy going.

First up were the young female athletes and Pitreavie had an amazing  5 teams with 121 teams entered. The U13 runners on the start line were Iona Crawford, Zoe Nicholson, Fabi Mancini, Jemma Jamieson and Kym McAlpine. Iona ran a fantastic leg coming home in 3rd position, with other girls doing exceptionally well with Zoe finishing in 13th, Fabi 49th, Jemma 77th and Kym 92nd. The U15 leg was always going to be the most competitive and Emily Nicholson fought hard to hold on a great 6th position for the A team, followed by Sophie Nethery in 23rd for the B team, Alana Sneddon (C team) 57th and Aimee Scott ( D team) 76th. In the final leg Leah Davie, running up an age group, ran the 2nd fastest U15 time of the day to bring home the bronze medal for the A team. Vhairi McAtear brought the B team home in 36th and new to cross country, sprinters Lexie Cook and Annie Nelson gave the C and D teams great finishes in 64th and 76th respectively. Well done girls!

The next event was the young male athletes and once again we had a fantastic 5 Pitreavie teams entered. The U13 boys Alex Johnston, Conor Allan, Arran Robertson, Josh Spence and Liam Gillan for the A to E teams respectively started off at a fast pace. Alex was first home in a great 6th, Josh 65th, Arran 89th, Liam 92nd and Conor 96th. In the next leg for the U15 boys, James Adam kept the A team in contention with a great run handing over in 9th position. The other teams managed to improve their positions with Andrew McNair bringing the D team home in 56th position, Dylan Thomson for the B team 70th, William Cain for the D team 71st and Ben Grant 75th. Aidan Thompson managed to pick up a fantastic 5 places with the 2nd fastest U17 run of the day to bring the A team in a very well deserved 4th position. Corey Smith further improved the B teams final position to 63rd, Cameron Sinclair bringing the D team home not far behind in 65th and the C team with Kyle Henderson in 74th. Congratulations boys, a great run by all!

Unfortunately we didn't have a ladies team but had two men's teams entered once again mixing youth and experience. The A team consisted of Ben Potrykus, Jeff Farquhar, Scott McAlpine and Owain Williams. Ben had a fantastic first leg finishing in 20th position from 141 starting, Jeff brought the team home in 48th after the second leg, Scott doing well to pick up 10 places in the third to 38th and Owain finishing the final leg in 40th for the team. The B team Iain Robertson, Jack Lawrie, Colin Lamont and Steven Perry-Clyde finished in a respectable in 88th. Iain started first finishing in 124th position, with Jack picking up 14 positions, Colin a further 8 positions and Steven matching Jack once again with a further 14 position improvement. Great performance by all.

Also a great big thank you to all the supporters and yet again for the lovely contributions to our tea table!

Hope to see you all at the next Cross Country, Lasswade at Gorebridge on Sunday 3rd November - this one is open to all age groups and abilities.
