What is this league?

The UK Youth Development League UAG (Upper Age Group formerly known as the National Junior League) and Kingdom is in the Northern Region Premier Division 2. There are four matches each summer; three in England and one in Scotland.

Athletes must be either U17 or U20 and three athletes (male and female) are required for each field event and four athletes (male and female) for each track event.  All track and field events are on the programme. Full details are on the website.

Note – This is the main league competition for all U17 and U20 athletes and the aim is to compete at the highest level possible and remain in the top division. Pitreavie will not be recognising the UK Youth Development League LAG (Lower Age Group formerly known as the Young Athletes League) as a form of competition for U17 athletes.

Who competes in this league?

U17 and Under 20 male and female athletes

How is the team selected?

Athlete selection is based on current form, season’s PBs and Power of 10 recorded times. The team managers must put forward the strongest team possible and therefore you may not always be selected for your favoured event.

Team selection is reviewed prior to each match.

You may be asked on the day to participate in an additional event if there are gaps due to injury or illness and other athletes are unable to compete. The team managers, where possible, will try to fill all events as valuable points can often be picked up. There is a good team spirit when athletes are willing to do events that they don’t class as one of their “main events” and often PBs are picked up or you find another event that you actually enjoy.

How do we get there?

When we travel to England, we go down the night before, stay the night in a Premier Travel Lodge, compete  and then travel home after the match.

The bus collects athletes from Dundee, Glenrothes and Dunfermline. We can also arrange to pick up athletes at other places with sufficient planning.

Details of the accommodation and competition venues will be available nearer the time.

What cost is involved?

Athletes and officials pay £20 per trip (payable on the day), which contributes to the cost of the transport and the hotel. Kingdom covers the remaining cost of B&B and the bus. Athletes must provide their other meals by themselves. Lunch is provided on competition day for officials but other meals must be covered by the official.

The three clubs contribute £1500 each to support the trips and we then depend on fundraising and donations to cover the rest of the costs. If you know of a company or organisation which might be able to make a contribution, we'd be very happy to hear from you!

Availability

Please try to be free on these weekends! The team manager selects athletes based on performances, ability and availability. In theory we have too many athletes for everyone to go to every match but in reality we usually need everyone because of injuries, illness or other commitments. If you work at weekends, please try and arrange to be free for these dates.
