Pitreavie Pole Vaulters Dominate at Scottish Indoor Champs

Published on Saturday, 30 January 2016 22:42

A wee report on behalf of the Pitreavie Pole Vault Squad (and a reminder that anyone in the club who is registered with the website can post news here)...

The first of the National Indoor Championships took place at the Emirates in Glasgow today with the U17 and Senior Champs sharing the stage. Pitreavie athletes competed in track and field across the two age groups, however it was the pole vault group run by coach Eamon Fitzgerald who stole the show. In the U17 women's competition, Alana Dunsmore took gold with a PB of 3.02, her first time reaching the 3 metre milestone.

In the Under 17 Men's pole vault,  Dylan Thompson was up against some stiff competition and took bronze with a PB of 3.50m. Dylan competed for the first time in pole vault last May and since then his PB has risen an impressive 1.3m.

In the Senior Champs  Craig Moriarty took gold with a PB of 4.20m and Kara Bradbeer took silver with a vault of 3.42, just a few cm short of her PB. Birthday girl Anna Gordon however stole the show, winning the Women's event with a PB and new Scottish Indoor U20 record of 3.92m (subject to ratification), 2cm clear of Anna's existing record. Both Anna and Craig are still U20 but had entered the Senior event to give them addtional competition.

There can't be many coaches who have athletes who claim both Men's and Women's Senior National titles on the same day.

Well done to coach and athletes for all your hard work, it certainly paid off today and for spectators it was a very exciting event to watch.

I'd also like to say well done to Iona Crawford and Ben Grant who both won bronze in the U17 800m. Both were great races to watch.
