Scottish Schools Roundup

Published on Saturday, 08 February 2014 21:15

The Scottish Schools Indoor Champs kicked off at the Emirates on Wednesday evening with the Pole Vault competition. There was a larger than normal field of athletes with a grand total of 20 spanned across the four ages groups (under 16 boys, over 16 boys, under 16 girls and over 16 girls). Great to see so many vaulters taking part.

In the Under 16 Girls Ruth Harvey won bronze for Dunfermline HS. In the Over 16 Girls it was a clean sweep with Kirsten Cronie winning bronze for Woodmill, Kirsten Mullen Winning Silver for Dunfermline HS and Anna Gordon Winning Gold for Perth HS. Anna's vault is a new U20 Indoor club record.

In the Under 16 Boys Craig Moriarty won Gold for St Columba's and matched the Under 17 Club Record, This rounded off the day with the pole vault group coached by Eamon Fitzgerald winning five medals.

On the Thursday we headed to the Emirates again for a full day of track and field events. Pitreavie athletes from various schools went head to head with the best talent in Scotland and in all the events the competition was  tough. On the track various athletes made it to the finals of their favoured events; Leah Davie (Inverkething HS) Under 16G 1500m; Amiker Best (Inverketihing HS) U16G 300m; Iona Crawford (Kinross HS) U16G 800m; James Adam (Quenn Anne HS) U16B 800m; Taylor Roy (Beath HS) U16B 60mH; Bethany McAndrew (Beath HS) U16G 60mH; Sarah Connor (St Columba's HS) Over 16G 60m. It also looks like James' time in the heat was a new Under 15 club record.

Numerous other athletes gave their all and finished the day with a PB.

Sorry if I've missed anyone - hopefully the results will be posted soon. I am sure all the schools are proud of the perfomances and although everyone was competing for different schools there was still plenty cheering going on from the 'Pitreavie' camp. A long but very enjoyable day.

Note - all club records are subject to verification.
