Pitreavie are helping to host the Fife Primary Schools Athletics Festival tomorrow at the track. The event is run by Dunfermline & West Fife Sports Council and provides a great taster of athletics in a competition environment. I can see from the entries that we have quite a few P6 and P7 club athletes entered, however the majority of the youngsters attending will not have been in a competition environment before and we want to do our best to ensure everyone has a great day.
We have therefore added a few amendments to the normal rules that you are used to following:
- No track spikes are allowed. This is to prevent club athletes having an unfair advantage and to ensure everyone is in a similar kit
- Track events will be started by a whistle (some youngsters may get startled by a gun)
- The long jump will be measured from where the athlete takes off (so no foul jumps)
Please encourage and support all athletes on the day who may be a little nervous or unsure. Remember everyone is there to do their best, enjoy the experience and perhaps decide that athletics is a sport they would like to be involved in
