It will be a proud moment tomorrow for Eilidh Doyle and her family when she has the Honour of leading Team Scotland into the Commonwealth Games' Gold Coast arena , carrying the Saltire, the first time ever for a female team member.
Although she is the most medaled of any Scottish Athlete in international athletics, bearing the Scottish Flag will rate with the best of them and is a well deserved recognition of her service to Scottish Athletics.
It doesn't seem so long since she was running around the track at Pitreavie as an U13 girl, competing in a wide range of events : sprints up to 1500m , hurdles , cross country , relays etc, and continued that through the age groups , winning many East Dist / Scottish Championship medals. A great deal of Eilidh's success is due to Past President , Norman Gardiner who coached her for approx 12 years up to European Championship level and then maintained her interest in Athletics when she was at University. A Life member of the Club , she's been very loyal to Pitreavie AAC and is still proud to wear the Club vest when appropriate - a great inspiration for all our young members.
Tomorrow is a landmark moment for Scottish Athletics, Pitreave AAC and Kinross High School.
