Gartmorn 6 & Alloa Half Roundup

Published on Tuesday, 18 March 2014 11:50

Pitreavie Road Runners took part in the second and third of their Championship races over successive weekends at the Gartmorn 6 multi-terrain race and the Alloa Half Marathon. Numbers were down as some runners were missing through injury or illness, although a few were returning to action after absences for similar reasons.

The Gartmorn 6 race was held on a cold, grey morning with intermittent rain but fortunately no wind to contend with. Recent rains had turned the path through the woodland into a quagmire and the route round Gartmorn dam had numerous puddles to splash through. Despite these conditions competitors seemed to enjoy themselves and, as with most off-road races, finished with smiles on their faces.

Suzanne Gray was first Pitreavie runner home in 18th place and 2nd female vet in a time of 39:16. She was followed by Ronnie Ritchie who was 76th in 45:39, Michael Bisset 90th in 46:46, Laurence Leask 91st in 46:49, Campbell Blair 111th in 47:48, Alan Forbes 115th in 48:17, Martin Kay 131st in 49:58, Mandy Cazes 142nd in 51:07, Jane Macleod 148th in 51:36, Margaret Blanski 180th in 55:30, Donald Macleod 182nd in 55:36, and Serena Jones 224th in 64.24.

The following Sunday saw very different weather conditions for the record field running the Alloa Half Marathon. It was dry and mild but with a very strong, gusty wind which competitors had full in their faces for the 4+ miles stretch from Tillicoutry to Menstrie.

Some Pitreavie runners are missing from the official results so we hope there were no faults with the timing chips. Suzanne Gray led the club finishers in 110th place and 2nd female V35 in 1 hour 25 minutes 49 seconds. Neil Maclachlan was 216th in 1:32:14, Gavin Major 582nd in 1:45:06, Laurence Leask 650th in 1:47:17, Vikki Taylor 665th in 1:47:42, Martin Kay 856th in 1:53:03, Alan Forbes 923rd in 1:55:20 the day after running the D33 race, Jane Macleod took the prize for 1st Female V60 in 931st in 1:55:30, Colin Lee was 952th in 1:56:07, Louise Henderson 1113th in 2:01:02, Serena Jones 1399th in 2:21:05.
