Welfare Report

Published on Wednesday, 01 April 2015 09:43

Welfare is an important part of athletics, ensuring our young athletes are supported and safe. At Pitreavie we know that sport allows children the opportunity to have fun and to develop self-esteem, confidence, leadership and teamwork skills. But this can only happen when we all put childrens’ welfare first and create and develop a culture where individuals are respected and listened to.

I have had the post of Welfare officer for the past year and have made an effort to become a well known face at the track, being approachable and friendly allows athletes or parents to know who to turn to if they have a problem or a welfare issue they need to discuss.  Ensuring all Adults who coach or work with our young athletes have had a disclosure check by completing the PVG application forms is another part of the job.

I am looking for volunteers to support me in this role, as per Scottish Athletics Guidelines we should also have a Male Welfare officer, this is a sensible idea as it may be that our young male athletes would rather discuss any issues with a man rather then myself.

As well as this I wondered if anyone who has an HR background or experience with grievance or disciplinary issues would be able to help me work on a new complaints procedure for the club and give guidance if and when any issues arise?

This role would be as part of a sub-group for Welfare so would not take up a lot of time or involve committee meetings, any questions please feel free to contact me on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
