Pitreavie athletes were out in force at the 4j Studios National Relay Championships in Linwood, prior to a well earned break before the winter season. The club fielded several teams, and the smiles from the athletes said it all, as they returned to Pitreavie with a host of medals; 3 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze. U13G ( Sophie Mackie, Christy Cameron, Jenna Young and Mia Fairweather) placed first in the 4 x 100m with 54.19s ahead of Kilmarnock, with the U15G (Anastasia Cotorobai, Katie Thomson, Laurie Hunter, Holly Ovens) also placing first in the 4 x 300m with 2:59.82m ahead of Dunfermline Track and Field. The U15G followed this up with another great first place in the 3 x 800m with their time of 7:08.43m (Katie Sandilands, Ariane Baillie, Lily Smith) in front of Edinburgh AC and in a field of 24 teams.
The mixed 4 x 400m relay saw Evan Wilson, Adom Akuoko, Cameron Johnston, and Caleb McLeod placing second, and taking silver, on 3:43.82m just behind Airdrie Harriers. Completing the great results the Senior Women (Elena Clark, Danni Mauchlen, Lynn Harvey and Emma Pedrana) took home bronze medals in the 4 x 100m with their time of 48.99s.
At the same time as the National Relays were taking place, Pitreavie’s Frame Runners took part in a fantastic disability Open Championship event in Perth, with eight runners taking part from the club, bringing home an impressive haul of 24 medals between them.
The club was proud to report the recognition for its athletes Rory Voss, Rebecca Grieve, Adom Akuoko, and Caleb McLeod, who were recently selected to represent Scottish Schools at the SAIB Track and Field International in Derby. Rebecca Grieve (U17) placed second in the 300m on 39.11s and was also part of the silver medal winning Scottish 4 x 300m relay team, whilst Rory Voss was part of the 4 x 100m U17 boys bronze medaling Scottish team.
The busy weekend of athletics was rounded off by Pitreavie’s club Championships, which included Track and Field and the Endurance section 5 mile handicap. The club took the opportunity to finish an enjoyable day by celebrating Eilidh Doyle’s long and illustrious athletics career with a presentation at the club she grew up with. Eilidh’s husband helped get her along to the surprise celebration, under the pretext of attending the Club Championships. Eilidh had a chance to catch up with club members after a presentation of an artwork celebrating her career. The artwork had a strong Pitreavie AAC family feel, as it was drawn by the Alistair Moriarty, son of Pitreavie’s Event organiser, Nicola Moriarty who arranged the surprise. A Pitreavie AAC spokesman said, ‘We are very proud to have Eilidh as a lifetime member and felt it fitting to mark her retirement from athletics.’
