Pitreavie athlete Laurie Hunter, U13, excelled at the recent Scottish National Indoor Combined Championships at the Emirates by winning silver in the Pentathlon, only being beaten by English athlete, Emily Bond, From North Shields Polytechnics. Laurie’s overall score of 2406 points was a new U13 girls Pitreavie club record, with further club age group records being broken via her 3rd place in the 60m Hurdles in 10.27s (662 points), and long jump of 4.40m. Her solid shot put throw of 7.21m put her in a strong position going into the final event of 800m, but a dramatic twist in her last race came near the end when Laurie miscalculated her laps and sprint finished, stopping 200m too early. Pulling it out of the bag, Laurie picked up her pace to finish the 800m in 2nd place with a time of 2:38.19 mins.
Rhiannon Millar also competed at the U13 Pentathlon, coming midway up the results with 14th place out of 29 athletes despite no points for high jump. Rhiannon won her heat for 60mH with 10.65s giving her 8th overall in 60mH. She also came 4th overall in the 800m with her time of 2:44.16mins.
Caleb McLeod performed solidly in the U15 boys Pentathlon against a UK wide field of athletes. Despite 3 PBs with a long jump of 5.17m, 10.64 for hurdles and a throw of 6.73m in the shot put, his high jump was 7cm below his best of 1.55m and an 800m run of 2:18.30mins, 7s below PB, saw him with an overall score of 1983 points giving him an 8th overall.
